—Disneyland’s “It’s a Small World” ride will be shutting down for 10 months after the Christmas season is over for a complete overhaul. Why? Well, the ride is still using the original boats and equipment from the 1964 World’s Fair—and with Americans 25 pounds heavier, on average, than they were back then, a lot of the boats end up getting stuck inside! The flume trench that guides the boats will be lowered by an inch, and all the 45 year old boats will be replaced with newer, lighter models. Also, a detection system will be installed—right now, if a boat gets stuck, there’s no way for the operator to know until the boats stop coming out the other end! Often, that means riders are stuck listening to that song for up to ten minutes while waiting for someone to notice they’re trapped!
